Animal Control

The Taft Animal Control department provides protection for the health, safety, and welfare of the public within the city limits, by controlling the animal population and establishing uniform rules for the control and eradication of rabies.

About Animal Control

  • Enforces all City of Taft ordinances pertaining to the regulation and possession of all domesticated animals within the City of Taft.
  • Removes all injured animals and carcasses from City of Taft streets and roadways.
  • Promotes spaying and neutering of pets to aid in reducing the stray animal population.
  • Works in conjunction with law enforcement to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty cases.
  • Finds responsible fur-ever homes for adaptable stray animals by working with local and state rescue groups.
  • Animal bites must be reported to the Police Department by calling 911 or (361) 222-9110.

Adoption Information

One of our most rewarding jobs for an animal control officer is finding loving families willing to accept a new adopted pet.

  • Adoption fee for ownership is waived in attempt to rehome animals.
  • New owner is responsible for all immunizations.
  • New owner MUST HAVE PET SPAYED OR NEUTERED WITHIN 10 DAYS OF ADOPTION.

Fees

  • Impoundment Fee: $25, plus $10 for every day thereafter
  • Adoption Fee: $0 adults, puppies, kittens
  • Owner Surrender Fee: $40 per animal

Animal Traps

Animal traps are available to Taft residents. Trap rentals are based on availability.
